A nurse’s aide is also referred to as a nursing assistant and is responsible for taking care of the patients on behalf of the doctor or nurse in charge. The main responsibilities of a nurse aide are to feed, bathe, clothe and even help patients with toilet duties and moving around. Sometimes one may be required to monitor and give a report on the patient’s behavior of progress.

This may seem like an easy job in the eyes of many but it can be very difficult especially if one is not trained. To be a certified nurse’s aide, one must undergo a level of training in the various institutions offering the course. After learning both in class and on the field, a certification exam as well as a skill exam is done after which a certification is issued on passing.

A certified nursing assistant can work in any kind of medical setting be it a home, clinic or hospital. There is an increased demand for caregivers as more elderly, disabled and terminally ill patients require more special care and attention. This is one field that has never gone out of market and there is no possibility that it will any time soon. The courses do not take too long and you don’t need to have any medical background to train as a nursing aide.

Apart from the knowledge and skills one acquires in school, the personality and values of a person can really determine if he or she will make it as a certified nurse’s aide. There are things that some people can’t handle as well as other and this field means adjusting to fit the settings at present. Each of the caregivers needs to posses patience, commitment, kindness and tenderness to manage the patients as expected. The patients need to feel cared for and loved and hence the need to handle them with all kindness and care.

If one finds himself in a situation that he is getting irritated by the patients, then probably this is not the field he is meant to be in. Motivation and the will to help those who really need help is the drive of the nursing assistant without which one can’t last long in the market.
